Great Salt Lake Wildlife Experience
- Type:Hiking and Trekking Tours
- Duration:5 Hours
OVERVIEWUtah's wilderness is easily accessible from downtown Salt Lake when you visit Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. The island contains beautiful scenery, sprawling lakeside vistas, and plenty of wildlife. We'll look out for the herd of 600 American Bison roaming the island, as well as coyote, bobcat, antelope, porcupine, big-horn sheep, mule deer, and seasonal migratory birds. Afterwards, hike to Buffalo Point via a moderate and well traveled .9 mile trail to catch the sunset.Take a sunset hike to Buffalo PointLook out the island's bison herd and other wildlifeVisit the beautiful and enigmatic Antelope Island on a guided tourTravel in the comfort of a 10 passenger Ford Transit vanINCLUDESPrivate transportationAll Fees and TaxesUse of BinocularsEXCLUDESGratuitiesIf you need parking, The Hilton Hotel (downtown) has parking for $10 or The Grand America for $15.MEETING AND PICKUPOptions and Start timeSunset + Wildlife Experience:02:00 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:02:15 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:02:30 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:02:45 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:03:15 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:03:30 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:03:45 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:04:00 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:04:15 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:04:30 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:04:45 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:05:00 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:05:15 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:05:30 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:05:45 PMSunset + Wildlife Experience:06:00 PMPickup pointsThe supplier will pick up customers from select hotelsPickup detailsPlease be ready 10 minutes before your tour time. We have a 20 minute pickup window, So we may be as early as 10 minutes before or as late as 10 minutes after.
While we have to be quite strict on places to pick up for the Tour we can be a little more flexible with drop-off at the end of the tour.
WHAT TO EXPECTCombine your trip to the Great Salt Lake with what I consider the only way to visit it by experiencing Antelope Island. This little known island is teaming with wildlife, and you can't get the quiet of wilderness by simply visiting it near I-80. We will spot for the wild herd of 600 American Bison roaming the island. Amongst the Bison we'll watch for coyote, bobcat, antelope, porcupine, big-horn sheep, mule deer and if the season is right up to 200,000 migratory birds. You can truly experience Nature in its finest form on this beautiful island. After wildlife spotting, we'll hike to Buffalo Point on the Island to watch the sunset and take in the breathtaking views.
*Bug Season (April-June)
We have bug spray for the mosquitos, and hats/bug nets for the biting gnats. Midges do not bite.
The Hike is .9 miles round trip. It has a couple steep parts on dirt, but it's very well traveled. I would designate this as a moderate hiking difficulty, which is less than a mile.
The Tour Vehicle is a 10 Passenger Ford Transit Passenger Van with a High Roof and really great large windows in the back for viewing.

The sculpture, which is constructed mainly of concrete, consists of a squarish 'trunk' holding up six spheres that are coated with natural rock and minerals native to Utah. There are also several hollow sphere segments on the ground around the base. The sculpture currently has a fence surrounding the base to protect people from falling tiles.
Inscribed on the plaque are the words from Ode to Joy by Friedrich Schiller; also used as the chorus of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. It has been said that Momen was moved to create the 87-foot-tall (27 m) tree after having a vision of a tree while driving across the desolate Bonneville Salt Flats.
