Chateau Chantal is a winery located on the Old Mission Peninsula, only a few miles north of Traverse City, in Grand Traverse County, Michigan. The chateau sits atop one of the highest points on the Old Mission Peninsula and has views of both East and West arms of Grand Traverse Bay. The winery is a European style chateau on a 64-acre (26 ha) estate. The Chateau has a tasting room, an eleven-room bed and breakfast, and a hospitality room where cooking classes and Jazz at Sunset are hosted.

Soak in beautiful East Bay views while enjoying world-class wines.

Due to 2025 construction projects guests staying on the Leelanau Peninsula are strongly encouraged to Wine Tour in Leelanau County.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Shady Lane Cellars

Tour guests can buy flights, wine by the glass, bottles or join the wine club during this fantastic stop on the tour. One of the best vineyards on Leelanau Peninsula, guest can sip, savor and taste some of the best reds and whites in the area. Red wine drinkers can sample a stellar Blaufränkisch. White drinkers sample a Muscat or Coup de Blanc-Shady Lane is an old Chicken Coup. Shady Lane is one of the few area wineries who offer a Muscat which was the first grape brought to Europe by the conquering Romans.

This is a smaller "boutique" winery only producing 7000 cases per year. Our visitors will be seeing nature, vineyards and orchards Shady Lane is not a busy road so there is no view of traffic, no close neighbors -- just vineyard and woods in the heart of Leelanau County. An outdoor patio area will provide a relaxing environment with cozy views of the adjacent vineyards.

Guests from outside of downtown-

Day tours- we can sometimes pick up before tours at local area hotels, however, traffic gets heavy in the afternoon, so drop off after the day tour would be downtown Traverse City. Day tour guests are strongly encouraged to go downtown Traverse City to eat until rush-hour is over, catch an Uber or hotel shuttle later in the afternoon. Guides have dinner recommendations for guests.

Guests on the afternoon/sunset tours- Plan ahead, get downtown early via hotel shuttles/Ubers- traffic gets heavy in the afternoon. Get to the pickup point (Hardy Street Parking Structure), and we can usually drop off at local hotels/motels after the wine tour.

The Hawthorne Vineyards site is arguably the most secluded Old Mission Peninsula tasting room site. The tasting room is located on a high bluff with views of both East and West Grand Traverse Bays. 5: Grand Traverse Bay

Grand Traverse Bay is an arm of Lake Michigan. The bay is separated from the rest of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula. The bay is some 32 miles long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, behind Green Bay.

Grand Traverse Bay earned its name from 18th-century French voyageurs who made "la grande traverse" or a long trek or crossing, across the mouth of bay.

The most famous feature of the Grand Traverse Bay is the division into East and West arms by the Old Mission Peninsula.

During this tour, on the way from Traverse City to Hawthorne Vineyards, your tour guests will see stunning views of the East Bay. Tour guests will be driven right along the shoreline at times. Bowers Harbor Vineyards stablished in 1991 is one of the original wineries in the area. Initially a horse farm, the estate now boasts 20 acres of vinifera vines. An inviting tasting room is a former horse stable, and a friendly staff will welcome and introduce your tour guests to an extensive selections of top wines by the glass, bottle or by the flight.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards is nicknamed the "dog winery" and guests might see various dogs at the winery.

Bowers Harbor grows Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The real show stopper is the Pinot Secco (bubbly Pinot Grigio) and a Pinot Secco Rose (Magic Mike's pick).

Pickup is at Hardy Street Parking Structure, east side of the structure near the State Street entrance next to Middlecoast Brewery, look for some luxury GMC Yukons/Cadillac Escalades. Hardy Street Parking Structure is across the street from Park Place Hotel. For groups, we also pick up at some local downtown Traverse City locations- email or text us your location. Our guests don't have to walk miles to a far-away park to get on some old run-down bus! OR worse, our guests won't have to drive to some park only to drive back to Traverse City after a day of drinking wine! Don't come here on vacation and leave on probation! Movie Stars Wine Tours guests get picked up and dropped off in Downtown Traverse City. Book the Movie Star Experience!

Guests from outside of downtown-

Day tours- we can sometimes pick up before tours at local area hotels, however, traffic gets heavy in the afternoon, so drop off after the day tour would be downtown Traverse City. Day tour guests are strongly encouraged to go downtown Traverse City to eat until rush-hour is over, catch an Uber or hotel shuttle later in the afternoon. Guides have dinner recommendations for guests.

Guests on the afternoon/sunset tours- Plan ahead, get downtown early via hotel shuttles/Ubers- traffic gets heavy in the afternoon. Get to the pickup point (Hardy Street Parking Structure), and we can usually drop off at local hotels/motels after the wine tour.

One of the best vineyards in Traverse City, guest can sip, savor and taste some of the best reds and whites on the peninsula. Red wine drinkers can sample Merlot / Cab Franc blend and for the white drinkers try the Auxerrois or Dry Riesling. Guests can get a popcorn flight and even a charcuterie board. One of the newest up and coming wineries on Old Mission Peninsula.

The Hawthorne Vineyards site is arguably the most secluded Old Mission Peninsula tasting room site. The tasting room is located on a high bluff with views of both East and West Grand Traverse Bays. Our visitors will be seeing nature no view of traffic, no close neighbors -- just vineyard, woods and water.

Guests can choose various toppers and this drink is the winery best seller. Remember... Froze' with a Red Topper!

Our tour guests will be able to purchase the only Sauvignon Blanc on Old Mission Peninsula or try the "porch pounder" which is a rare Pinot Noir Riesling blend. Tour guests can also purchase a customizable tasting of various wines and then head to the deck for an amazing photo opportunity.
The lawn bar is open during the summer months which is one of the best locations in Traverse City to sample wines. Snack packs are also available for purchase.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards stablished in 1991 is one of the original wineries in the area. Initially a horse farm, the estate now boasts 20 acres of vinifera vines. An inviting tasting room is a former horse stable, and a friendly staff will welcome and introduce our tour guests to an extensive selections of top wines by the glass, bottle or by the flight.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards is nicknamed the "dog winery" and guests might see various dogs at the winery.

Bowers Harbor grows Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The real show stopper is the Pinot Secco (bubbly Pinot Grigio) and a Pinot Secco Rose (Magic Mike's pick).

Grand Traverse Bay (Pass by)

Grand Traverse Bay is an arm of Lake Michigan. The bay is separated from the rest of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula. The bay is some 32 miles long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, behind Green Bay.

Grand Traverse Bay earned its name from 18th-century French voyageurs who made "la grande traverse" or a long trek or crossing, across the mouth of bay.

The most famous feature of the Grand Traverse Bay is the division into East and West arms by the Old Mission Peninsula.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards is nicknamed the "dog winery" and guests might see various dogs at the winery.

4: Grand Traverse Bay

Grand Traverse Bay is an arm of Lake Michigan. The bay is separated from the rest of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula. The bay is some 32 miles long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, behind Green Bay.

Grand Traverse Bay earned its name from 18th-century French voyageurs who made "la grande traverse" or a long trek or crossing, across the mouth of bay.

The most famous feature of the Grand Traverse Bay is the division into East and West arms by the Old Mission Peninsula.

During this tour, on the way from Traverse City to Hawthorne Vineyards, our tour guests will see stunning views of the East Bay. Tour guests will be driven right along the shoreline at times. On the drive from Hawthorne to Bowers guests will see views of the West Bay. Tour guests will see views of both East and West Bays during the rest of the tour as well. Grand Traverse Bay is an arm of Lake Michigan. The bay is separated from the rest of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula. The bay is some 32 miles long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, behind Green Bay.

Grand Traverse Bay earned its name from 18th-century French voyageurs who made "la grande traverse" or a long trek or crossing, across the mouth of bay.

The most famous feature of the Grand Traverse Bay is the division into East and West arms by the Old Mission Peninsula.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards stablished in 1991 is one of the original wineries in the area. Initially a horse farm, the estate now boasts 20 acres of vinifera vines. Bowers Harbor Vineyards is nicknamed the "dog winery" and guests might see various dogs at the winery.

Day tour guests are strongly encouraged to go downtown Traverse City to eat until rush-hour is over, catch an Uber or hotel shuttle later in the afternoon. Guides have dinner recommendations for guests.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Arrive around half an hour before your departure time to listen to a welcome briefing from the second mate. Then climb aboard the Wind Dancer for your 2.5-hour sunset sailing adventure. Start your journey with your choice of wine, beer, a cocktail, or a soft drink, accompanied by snacks produced right in Traverse City.

Next, indulge on a picnic dinner of locally sourced fare (vegetarian options are available with advanced notice). When you're done with your meal, you can hang out on deck taking in sunset views or spend some time exploring the boat's salon below the deck as you listen to onboard commentary from the crew. Topics of discussion range from the history and ecology of the Great Lakes and the surrounding regions to the ins and outs of sailing. After the sunset, head back to shore.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Experience the best of our area during a wine tasting offered by wine expert Kristy McClellan from Lake District Wine Company aboard The Discovery.

Anyone 21 and over can join Kristy in our "Wines from Around the World and Backyard" discussion and tasting. As we cruise the bay, the beautiful backdrop will serve as the perfect pairing.

Kristy will share samples of wine grown right here in Northern Michigan and compare them with similar wines from other parts of the world. She will guide you through our unique micro-climate.

Nibbles will be provided and the cocktail and snack bars will be open for additional purchases.

*Must be 21 or over with valid ID to participate in wine tasting.
