Historic Center

The heart of Oaxaca, also referred to as Zocalo (main square), is the busy historic center, famous for its striking colonial architecture, fascinating museum, exquisite arts and crafts, and a uniquely rich culinary scene. The large historic square is overlooked by a massive cathedral where many festivities, markets, etc. are held. The center is home to several restaurants, cafes and shops, all easily walkable. The historic center is the best place to stay as it's packed with sights, as well as plenty of hotels for all budgets.
