PUERTO PLATA - HOTEL ZONES
Colonial Zones
The Colonial area is located around the central park (Independence Square) and the cathedral, where you'll find buildings of Victorian architecture. The plaza is home to colorful buildings, shops, cafes, and restaurants. At its center is a beautiful gazebo, an iconic structure where locals often gather. It is not as popular as the nearby beach areas to stay, but there are plenty of interesting things to do here. One of the most famous activities is to take the cable car up to Monte Isabel, unique in the Dominican Republic, from where you will have a fabulous view of the city with the ocean in the distance. This area is also home to the fortress of San Felipe from the colonial era and the boardwalk that runs along the coast, from the fortress to Long Beach. Overall, the Colonial Zone is a charming and culturally rich area that blends history, art, and beautiful architecture with a relaxed coastal vibe.
Playa Dorada
Situated on the Amber Coast, Dorado Beach is one of the most renowned beaches in the Puerto Plata area and across the Dominican Republic. Also called Golden Beach, it's perfect for activities like windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, and parasailing. Its calm, crystal-clear waters and gently sloping shore make it a popular spot for families. Several all-inclusive resorts line the beach, making it an ideal choice if you're looking for a resort-based vacation in the area.
