City Center/Historic Center

Granada is a small colonial city similar to other cities across Latin America. Staying in the historic city center is one of the best places to be. The main square of Granada, Parque Central (Central Park), is here, along with many other tourist attractions within easy walking distance. This area offers plenty of choices for accommodations in all different price ranges. You'll be close to top attractions like the Cathedral of Granada and Calle La Calzada (a pedestrian street with restaurants, bars, and shops). This is also the most attractive area of the city, with all the colorful colonial buildings, and is considered the safest area to stay in.

The historic center is easily walkable with all sorts of little markets, unique shops, and charming restaurants. Other fun spots include La Merced Church, the San Francisco Convent Art Museum, and Casa de los Tres Mundos, a cultural center showcasing unique local art and music.

Outskirts

Staying in the outskirts of Granada offers a glimpse into everyday Nicaraguan life. You'll find a variety of accommodations, many with larger spaces, and a more authentic feel. You'll likely need transportation if you are staying further out of the city center such as a car rental or taxis.

El Caimito is a quiet and safe neighborhood located just outside of the HIstoric Center. It is perfect for families looking for a laid-back alternative after a busy day of exploring. The charming street of La Calzad is located here, lined with restaurants and shops, making it a great area for a leisurely stroll.

Las Isletas de Granada is another area outside the historic center. This area is a bit of the upscale side of the city and has a unique charm. It is right by the lake and gives off an Everglades vibe with a variety of little islands and water pockets. There are plenty of activities to enjoy in this area. As you wander this neighborhood, you'll come across some beautiful old colonial mansions. Many of these grand homes are not hotels. One of the most popular things to do here is take a boat tour.
