Downtown

Downtown is a broader area that encompasses the city’s central, bustling area, including and extending beyond the historic center. It includes commercial zones with markets, local shops, and all the modern conveniences. The downtown area is slightly more diverse, blending the historical with the everyday life of the locals, featuring more contemporary buildings or less-preserved colonial structures.

City Center/Historic Center

The town of Antigua is relatively small and kind of shaped like a square, with each street laid out in a grid. The center of Antigua is the geographic center, and surrounds Parque Central, or “Central Park.” Staying in this area offers easy walking distance to all the top restaurants, shops, and attractions in Antigua. The entire historic center is walkable and there are plenty of accommodations to choose from in this area.

Outskirts

The outskirt hotels are typically just a few blocks away from the historic center. This is a great area for travelers looking for a quieter stay while still being close to everything. It’s great for those looking for something a little off the beaten path but without losing convenience.
