CHICHICASTENANGO - HOTEL ZONES
Town
Chichicastenango rarely sees tourists who stay overnight; most opt for a quick day trip to visit the market. Unlike Lake Atitlan, which continues to expand its hospitality scene, Chichicastenango has only a handful of older-style accommodations, lending the town a truly unique and charming character.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chichicastenango is a major K'iche' Maya cultural center where traditional ways of life remain vibrant. Aside from the market, there isn’t a great deal to do, and on non-market days, the town has a sleepy, slow-paced feel that showcases its authentic Mayan roots. Stroll through town, explore local landmarks, and immerse yourself in the rich culture—a refreshing change from typical hotel-oriented destinations.
One of the biggest perks of staying the night is experiencing the market at its most authentic, before the busloads of tourists arrive. If you enjoy a bit of adventure, we highly suggest staying overnight and waking up early to hit the market.
