PUERTO VARAS - NEIGHBORHOODS
Town
The small charming town of Puerto Varas is nestled on the shores of Lake Llanquihue boasting breathtaking views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. There are a few great accommodation options to choose from in the downtown Del Salvador area. Staying downtown puts guests at ease with the convenience of nearby shops, restaurants, bars, and attractions. Staying in the downtown area allows visitors the ease to explore most of the area on foot. The hotels in the downtown area offer some stunning views and some excellent amenities. The buildings, architecture, and cuisine have heavy German influences in Puerto Varas, many of the buildings are built with alerce wood with tools brought over from Europe during the 19th century. The downtown area was designated as a Tipica (Heritage Zone) in 1992 and features a number of protected buildings and landmarks. There is a good variety of hotels, boutique hotels, and cabins to choose from downtown.
Outskirts
The outskirts of Puerto Varas include the Llanquihue lakeside village just a few miles north of town, this is a peaceful location to stay when visiting with exceptional views. The accommodations here are great some are cozy country-style lodgings, and others are quite spacious with charming features and decor. Puerto Montt is a bigger, busier resort town about 15 miles outside of town. This is a good choice for visitors who are looking for a more lively atmosphere and more accommodations to choose from. Lifestyle and pricing are the two major differences when it comes to Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt, the latter is a more affordable option with more options to choose from when it comes to dining, retail, and entertainment. There are also some options to stay in the national parks in the area, for example, staying in Vicente Perez National Park puts guests on the shores of Lake Todos los Santos with easy access to everything.
