Addo Town
Addo is a small quiet town located east of the Sunday River on teh southern end of one of the biggest citrus-producing areas in South Africa. The town is nestled at the foot of the Zuurberg Mountains and is home to a number of award-winning spas, great restaurants, and country houses. Addo is en route to the main entrance and main reception area of the Addo Elephant National Park, in 1931 around 1,700 acres of the town were enclosed to create the park. In Addo, visitors will find some great accommodation options such as guesthouses, country houses, and lodges. Colchester Town
Colchester is a laid-back town nestled on the banks of the Sundays River just 2.5 miles away from the southern Mathyolweni Gate entrance to Addo Elephant National Park. There is a wide variety of accommodation options in town including some great lodges. There are some good restaurants to choose from and staying in Colchester provides visitors a good base and easy access to explore the national park. The river weaves its way through town and some accommodations, restaurants, and bars are set on the relaxing river bank with some nice views.

There are many camps set inside Addo Elephant National Park with many located at the “Main Camp”. This is where the majority of activities and accommodations are located and where visitors can find The Park’s Shop, and the popular Cattle Baron Grill and Bistro. The wide range of accommodations found at Addo Main Camp includes guest houses, chalets, cottages, safari tents, and camping sites. There are some amenities inside the park like gas stations, some shops, and dining opportunities. The Addo Rest Camp is the popular main rest camp of Addo National Park offering visitors a wide selection of self-catering accommodations like cabins, chalets, rondavels, cottages, and guest houses to choose from. The main camp area also features a swimming pool, a restaurant, a floodlit watering hole, and more.
Surroundings
Staying in the surrounding area of Addo Elephant National Park is another great option where visitors can base themselves close enough to have easy access to the park. The close location means visitors can reach the park early and stay all day without the worry of a long drive after a long day. The region of Addo extends beyond the park to the towns of Kirkwood, Paterson, and other regions. This area is home to attractive eco-lodges, comfortable cottages, and charming lodge stays.
