City Center
Baia Mare’s city center is a bustling neighborhood and the largest city in the Maramures region home to some of the friendliest people in Europe. There is a significant Hungarian population in the city and surrounding area which was the original part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. The city center has undergone a revamp in recent years, the old town features a lovely park and other charming sites with a lot of history. The main square in the city is where many hotels and other accommodations are found putting visitors within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and attractions. The oldest house in the city dates from the 1440s and sits on the east side of the square and the towering 120 foot tall Stephen’s Tower the watch town spanning six centuries of history.
Outskirts
Staying in the outskirts of Baia Mare puts visitors in some spectacular settings among the Gutai Mountains and lush surroundings.
