The vast majority of the population in French Polynesia lives in the Society Islands, home to such world-renowned beach vacation destinations as Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora. The Marquesas Islands are perhaps best-known for the island paradise of Nuku Hiva, home to French Polynesia`s tallest dormant volcano.

There are several interesting museums, the most popular being the Museum of Tahiti and Other Islands with its comprehensive collection of cultural artifacts. Another sight is the Tahiti Perles Centre features the rare and lovely Pinctada Margaritifera, the Tahitian black pearl. One of the most popular beaches is Bain Lot.
