Japan
Japan, the 'Land of the Rising Sun,' is a very busy nation of over 120 million people, who live on a chain of islands roughly the size of California. Japan is a great place to experience modern technological marvels, often alongside or close to historical sights such as castles, temples, and archaeological exhibits. The four major islands of Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) offer varying experiences for the traveler, from relaxing hot springs to ski getaways to temple pilgrimages to some of the world's best shopping and boutiques.
China
Thousands of years of history are on display in China, the 'Middle Kingdom' that was once the center of the world stage, and arguably is close to the center of the world today, leading the way in technology and, increasingly, modern popular culture. The billion-plus people of China live in varying climates, from the north, which can get cold and icy in winter, to more temperate climates further south. Beijing, the country's capital, is home to such sights as the Forbidden City and many vantage points on the Great Wall of China. Shanghai, modern with many European influences, is the country's second city and in many respects is even more important than the capital today. That's not to mention the vast lands further west, ranging from jungles to deserts.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong, spread out across an area less than half the size of Rhode Island, is one of the world's most cosmopolitan, glittering, and exciting cities. British colonial influence and Chinese cultural influence come together to bring you one of the most unique and awe-inspiring cities you will find in Asia. You can be in the heart of the city one minute and in less than an hour you can take a train and a cable car and be surrounded by lush greenery; this is but one thing that Hong Kong can deliver that many other city-states of similar size cannot.
