The popular local beach, Playa Paraiso, is situated just to the south of the ruins. Tulum is also a popular eco-tourism site as it is home to the largest cave system in Mexico (the Sistema Sac Actun, home to many cenotes) and it is the gateway city to Sian Ka`an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
