Playa del Carmen is situated on the Riviera Maya just across from Cozumel Island and is a popular city with tourists who come here for the beautiful sandy beaches and great diving opportunities. It is also a very popular city with American expatriates. Much of the commercial activity in Playa del Carmen is centered on Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida), where you can get some great souvenir deals if you are quick to bargain.
