The twin villages of Garmisch and Partenkirchen make up Germany's top alpine resort. In spite of their urban flair, the towns maintain the charm of an ancient village, especially Partenkirchen. Even today, you occasionally see country folk in traditional dress, yodeling and slap dancing; and you may be held up in traffic while the cattle are led from their mountain-grazing grounds down through the streets of town. This was the site of the Winter Olympic Games in 1936.
Drive at your own leisure through Germany discovering: Stuttgart (historical to modern and nature to architecture and known as the "cradle of the automobile", with home to famous automobile museums), Fussen (a charming Bavarian town rich in history and beauty, historically been a major centre for violin making, with the eclectic Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles lie southeast of the town), Garmish-Partekirchen (a prominent destination for skiing and ice skating as well as hiking. The town lies near the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak) and Munich (famous for its beautiful architecture, fine culture, public park, museums and the annual Oktoberfest beer celebration).
