Canela is smaller, lower (in altitude), and less touristy as well as more down-to-earth than its ostentatious sister city, Gramado, 8 kilometers (5.5 miles) away. Among its many tourist attractions, the Caracol State Park stands out, with the famous waterfall of the same name (Caracol waterfall, with a 131-meter fall) and the Parque da Ferradura. Canela has become an eco-adventure destination with plenty of activities for nature lovers with athletic inclinations. There are also many opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and river rafting.
