Canela is smaller, lower (in altitude), less touristy and more down-to-earth than its ostentatious sister city, Gramado, which is 5.5 miles away. Among its many tourist attractions, the Caracol State Park stands out, with the famous waterfall of the same name (Caracol Waterfall, with a 430 foot fall) and the Parque da Ferradura. Canela has become an eco-adventure destination with plenty of activities for nature lovers including hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and river rafting.
