The capital, Asuncion, on the banks of the Paraguay River, is home to the grand Government Palace, the Museo del Barro, displaying pre-Columbian ceramics and ñandutí lacework, and houses the largest concentration of bars, shops, restaurants, entertainment and shopping venues. Another highlight includes the city of Hernandarias featuring the Itaipu Dam, located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. This is the third largest hydroelectric dam in the world, and holds the 45th largest reservoir in the world. Ciudad del Este, bordering Brazil's magnificent Iguazu Falls, the beach destination of Encarnacion right next to Posadas Argentina and the upper part of the mysterious Chaco with its rustic character and natural wonders, situated a stone's throw from the neighbouring country of Bolivia, are further main Paraguayan hotspots.

Paraguay has a subtropical climate, overall characterized by high humidity and warm temperatures year-round, with hot and rainy summers, and mild winters with significant temperature variability that can bring both frosts to practically the entire national territory, as well as heat waves. The best time to visit Paraguay is between March and November, when the country sees consistently warm weather with temperatures of 72°F to 85°F daily. However, travel to Paraguay is possible year-round. Some people say that Paraguay has 2 types of climate: Hot and very hot!!
