Wander down one of the cobbled streets to find colonial mansions, facades, fountains, and churches of the charming colonial town of Tiradentes. Sheltered by a luscious landscape at the foot of the impressive Sao Jose mountain range, you will admire the Igreja Matriz de Sango Antonio; the interior is a marvelous sight, with half a ton of gold used to decorate its elegant altars and gilded flower garlands. Check out the Chafariz de Sao Jose fountain at the foot of the Sao Jose Mountains, featuring three faces representing love, fortune, and health which spouts water from the Mae d`Aqua woods. Appreciate handicrafts by local craftsman and artisans that can be bought in the district of Bichinho about 4 miles from downtown and where most of the art studios are located. Finally, you can't miss the Maria Fumaca steam locomotive, which takes you on an amazing journey through the Atlantic rainforest in the Sao Jose Mountains.
