The park stretches from Gary east to Portage, Porter, Chesterton, and Michigan City, Indiana, with the city of Valparaiso serving as a gateway to the park. There are 15 miles of beaches open to swimming and sunbathing, and the park is home to over 2,300 different species of flora and fauna.
