Suceava is one of the principal cities in the historical region of Bukovina, located in modern-day Romania. Tens of thousands of tourists each year flock to the region around Suceava to see the Churches of Moldavia (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), of which Suceava's best-known is St. John the New Monastery. Also noteworthy is the Fortress of Suceava, built while the city was part of the Principality of Moldavia in the 14th and 15th centuries.
