Faro is the gateway to the Algarve, the region in Portugal most popular with tourists. With over 300 days of sunshine each year, the weather in Faro is picture-perfect for sightseeing. Take a trip to the Ria Formosa Natural Park and experience beaches both big and small, including Cabo de Santa Maria, the country`s southernmost point. Whether you`re mild or more wild, Faro offers attractions for every type of traveler.

During this self-guided tour through Spain, Portugal, and France experience important pilgrimage sites, cathedrals, and shrines - each with its own special connection to the blessed mother Mary. Combine Seville (where you can visit the Virgin of Macarena at Seville`s cathedral), Faro (the Cathedral of Santa Maria), Lisbon (where the church of the famed Jeronimos Monastery is dedicated to Mary of Bethlehem), Fatima (a veritable pilgrimage site; here the blessed mother appeared to three small children in 1917 and now the town revolves around her presence), Santiago de Compostela (one of the world`s most popular pilgrimage sites where you can walk parts of the Camino Pilgrim`s Way and visit the cathedral where the relics of James the Apostle rest), Burgos, Lourdes (see the grotto where the Virgin appeared in 1858, the shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes, and the birthplace of St. Bernadette), Zaragoza (home to a miraculous image of the Virgin at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar), and finally Madrid (be sure to visit the priceless treasures of the Prado, and plan to stop in to nearby Avila, where St. Teresa founded the Order of Carmelites).
