Situated at the outermost edge of North Jutland is the university city of Aalborg where you`ll discover Viking history, 21st-century architecture and a charming medieval city center. In Viking times this narrow channel was a veritable highway for longboats, while the harbor helped turn the city into an industrial powerhouse in the 19th century. Today the chimney stacks and waterfront industry have been replace with trend-setting regeneration projects and cultural centers. Aalborg`s position at the narrowest point on the Limfjord made it an important harbour during the Middle Ages, and later a large industrial center. Architecturally, the city is very well known for its half-timbered mansions built by its prosperous merchants.
