Cefalù has a beautiful setting, at the foot of a towering rock, halfway along the north coast of Sicily. The pretty little fishing harbor and old town streets are dominated by its Norman Cathedral, and a long sandy beach right below the old town has made Cefalù a popular holiday resort. The stylish Cefalu Cathedral is one of Sicily's major Norman monuments built by Roger II between 1131 and 1240 as an act of thanks to God after surviving a shipwreck nearby. Inside the Cathedral, the Norman architecture and Arab, Byzantine, Latin and Nordic art are harmoniously combined in a wonderful synthesis of styles.
Here is a Italy you don`t often see on postcards (but that you definitely should see)! Begin in quintessential Palermo (this is an obvious must; with enviable glamor, great food, shopping, and history), before heading off to Trapani (an enchanting town composed of marvelous coasts that alternate with steep cliffs and endless beaches) and then visit regrettably overlooked Cefalu (notable for beautiful sunsets, unpretentious charm, and a very appealing blend of ingredients that define typical Sicilian life). Just be prepared to fall in love!
