Ever since the 16th century, Cremona was renowned as a center of musical instrument manufacture, beginning with the violins of the Amati family, and later including the products of the Guarneri and Stradivari shops. The main attractions of the city are: the medieval historical center, the beautiful paintings and frescoes of the Campi, a Renaissance family of painters, and the violinmaking tradition, superbly represented by the workshop of Antonio Stradivari who lived between the XVI and XVII Century. The university school of musical paleography is unique in Italy. An important centre for agricultural and dairy produce, Cremona manufactures agricultural machinery, silk textiles, bricks, and pianos.
