Puzzuoli is a colorful maritime town. The main attraction is the Anfiteatro Flavio, one of the finest surviving ancient arenas and the third largest in Italy. Built in the last part of the 1st century, it's particularly famous for its large underground caverns where exotic beasts from Africa were caged before being released into the ring to fight against gladiators. In the immediate vicinity is the Solfatara, a natural volcanic steam vent that is part of the Phlegraean Fields volcanic area. It is a dormant volcano, but still emits plumes of steam with sulfurous gases.
The Neapolitan Riviera is one of Italy`s most popular vacation destinations. Its coastline curves around the sun-soaked bays of Sorrento and Naples on Italy`s southwest coast. Inland you`ll find ancient ruins like Pompeii and natural wonders like Mount Vesuvius.
