Sarlat-la-Caneda was the ancient capital of Perigord Noir and must-visit place on your trip through the Dordogne – Perigord in France. Besides, it is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. Sarlat`s origins are uncertain. Although there are traces of human occupation dating back to the Paleolithic in the south of the city, tradition says that the city began to form from the ninth century around a Benedictine abbey that was the same distance Perigueux and Cahors.
