The stylish Malgrat de Mar. is a coastal municipality with a long tourist tradition belonging to the Coast of Barcelona. Certified since 2007 as a Family Destination, Malgrat de Mar offers quite a variety of activities to enjoy with the family or friends, as well as some cultural activities, related to nature and also history. As a matter of fact, in the old quarter of the town, most visitors find the Church of Sant Nicolau, a neoclassical style parish church dedicated to the patron saint of sailors and children, and also Sant Antoni Abad which is the patron saint of animals and farmers. It is also well known as the "Cathedral of the Coast" due to its large dimensions and its location on the coast of Barcelona. The central beach in Malgrat de Mar was awarded Blue Flag status in 1997 and has held on to it ever since due to the cleanliness of the beach and the water, making it a picturesque spot to go for a dip.
