Vigo, the largest city and metropolitan area in Galicia, is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation on the beaches of the Atlantic coast. You should not miss the spectacular Cies Island, with its white sandy unique beaches. You can admire great architectural masterpieces in town, most notably in Romanesque and Gothic styles. Vigo is known for a postmodern cultural movement in the 1980s, which produced punk and new wave bands, and its soccer team Celta de Vigo. This city is an excellent base from which to visit the towns and villages along the Vigo estuary and the Cíes Isles that form part of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands. The cuisine of the Galician coast, based on fish and seafood, is an added incentive for visiting this region.
