2,000 year old Segovia is a UNESCO World Heritage city northwest of Madrid, in central Spain's Castile and León region. It is magical city of warm terracotta and sandstone hues set amid the rolling hills of Castilla, against the backdrop of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Its centuries of settlement have resulted in a rich architectural legacy, including medieval walls, Romanesque churches, a former royal palace and a Gothic cathedral. An old Jewish quarter, stately homes, outstanding views and a green belt which is ideal for a pleasant stroll in the sunshine.
Nowhere else in Spain is there such a stunning monument to Roman grandeur as the soaring aqueduct surviving in the heart of a vibrant modern city. First raised by the Romans in the 1st century AD, the aqueduct was built with not a drop of mortar to hold the more than 20,000 uneven granite blocks together. It's made up of 163 arches and, at its highest point in Plaza del Azoguejo, rises 92 feet high. The castle "The Royal Alcazar" is located at the tip of a narrow promontory and has a history of about 10 centuries. The romantic design and the pink color are reminiscent of the Walt Disney palace, and in fact, Segovia's Alcázar was one of the inspirations used in designing the Disney World Cinderella castle!
