Most well known for its witch trials and witchcraft hysteria of the 1690s, Salem remains infamously known throughout the world. Situated on the North Shore, this city is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Massachusetts. The colonial port of Salem was once far more important than Boston, and was a primary player in the China trade. Today, a number of historic homes that once belonged to sea captains and wealthy merchants are preserved.
