Holland, Michigan is indeed a piece of Holland in the United States. Dutch religious settlers founded the town in the 1840s, and the Dutch descendants have left two legacies. The first is obvious, Holland is a small town full of Dutch ambience, such as tulips, windmills, and Dutch-style houses. The second is religion, the settlers opened over 100 churches and Holland is known today as the `City of Churches`. Nearby towns also have Dutch place names, such as Zeeland, Vriesland, and Drenthe.
