The Green Mountains comprise much of western Vermont and run for 250 miles from the Canadian border down to Massachusetts, where they become the Berkshires. The Green Mountains are so named because, as the legend says, even during heavy snowfall the dark green hues can be seen underneath. Noteworthy towns in the Green Mountains include Stowe, Montpelier, Ludlow, and Manchester, all known as summer and winter vacation destinations.
