Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, is situated on a narrow isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona. The Wisconsin State Capitol is located on the isthmus, as are the Old Market Place and Tenney Park neighborhoods. On the isthmus`s base, there is the University of Wisconsin-Madison, whose student population contributes to the city`s progressive and quirky vibe. The Herbert and Katherine Jacobs House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in a U.S. state capital.
